OUT ON TRACK
The strengthened STi could now be put to the test. After making several trips to the track and getting dialed in with the new setup, Chang shaved several seconds from his previous best pass, getting deep in the 10-second range with Hoosier Quick Time Pro slicks providing traction for the chassis. At the 2014 IDRC season opener, Chang qualified second with a best time slip of 10.285 seconds at 142.64 MPH. A month later, at the CMI event at Auto Club Speedway, Chang broke into the single digits with a 9.914 second pass, backed with an even quicker slip of 9.765 seconds at 143.06 MPH later that afternoon. “Key contributors to reaching my goals include proper tire selection, turbocharger selection (something that will give you power without the extreme backpressure and temperatures) and bullet proof engine internals.”
AND ON THE ROAD
Despite the NHRA certified cage and parachute mount, Chang still enjoys the STi on the road. “I drive the STi after work just about every day and on the weekends. I’ll sometimes drive it to work as it offers some stress relief for a stressful career,” he stated. As an enthusiast tuner, Chang has come quite a way since his embarassingly-riced out Accord. But he does all he can to pay it forward, with technical threads on NASIOC.com. “I have used what I’ve learned to help the Subaru community as best I can. Spend the extra money on critical and quality parts. Do it right the first time or end up spending a lot more later on,” Chang advised.
