2023 Toyota GR Corolla Reveal

Toyota is Going to Places where other OEMs have feared to tread. We recently reviewed the 2022 GR86 and we were convinced that it’s one of the best entry-level enthusiast cars with a sub-$30K price.  The GR86 delivers a performance-to-fun factor that few cars can match. While front-engine, rear wheel drive sport coupes with a manual transmission may not be what accountants see as the best use of company resources, accountants are boring people.

Since a 2-door sport coupe may not be practical for every enthusiast, Toyota’s 2023 GR Corolla Four will offer a hot hatch with 300 turbocharged horsepower, AWD and a 6-speed manual transmission. The GR Four will be lighter than the Golf R, WRX and STI, while having the best power-to-weight ratio of the bunch. It’s been 40 years since Toyota has offered a turbocharged AWD platform (Celica All-trac), but technological advances allows the new GR Corolla’s 3-cylinder, 1.6-liter engine to put out more power than the racing variants of the 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder used in the 1990s.

We will get all the specs about the car today with the exception of the MSRP. Here is a look at some shots of the new platform. Let us know what you think.
