9-sec Street/Show/Strip Supra | Overcoming Tragedy to Build 919 HP JZA80

Control Systems

An RPS carbon-carbon twin-disc clutch system regulates the power application to the TRD limited-slip differential. This differential sends equal power to each of the Toyo 315/25R19 rear tires mounted on the VeilSide Andrew Racing Evolution V rims. These rims spec to a 11.5- inch width in the rear and a 9.0-inch width in the front. All four tires deliver an improved contact patch thanks to suspension upgrades from TEIN and TRD. The TEIN HA coilovers work to maximize the contact patch while TRD sway bars keep body roll to a minimum.

A trio of GReddy black face gauges and an AEM wide-band UEGO gauge display engine vitals to the driver. The HKS EVC EZ2 electronic boost controller can easily be set to optimize the boost levels on 91-octane or 117-octane VP racing C16 racing gas.

Good to Go, Made for Show

Purpose-built show cars make little sense to performance enthusiast. However, there’s never anything wrong with making your streetcar stand apart from the crowd. To personalize this Supra, a combination of various body components were selected. A C- West front bumper ties in with VeilSide C1 side skirts and rear bumper. A Do-Luck rear diffuser and Top Secret hood complete the body tuning package. While never part of the original plan, Tony admits that he did spend a good deal of time on the exterior and interior of the Supra as he participated in a number of local car shows.Tony's 9 second Supra body kit

Coming Attractions

Currently, Tony is contemplating the necessary upgrades to run in the 8s. If he decides to follow this route, he’s likely to be working with DynoXtreme again. “I’ve been really impressed with the quality of work and service that DynoXtreme has provided with this project. The guys have stayed late on numerous occasions tuning the vehicle,” says Tony. On the safety side, a full-NHRA- legal cage is in order. For the driveline, an upgraded driveshaft will be needed. Fuel injectors, intercooler and engine-management upgrades also need to be made. In addition to these obvious upgrades, a turbocharger upgrade may also be in order to produce the 1200-to-1300 wheel horsepower that will be needed to put this full-weight Supra into the 8’s. Good luck. The rear of Tony's 9 second Supra
