Clean & Mean 500 HP Honda S2000

Space-age Style

Content with the power but always seeking individuality, Amrit shifted his attention to the exterior of the AP2 chassis. He noticed that the factory seats featured fabric panels that resembled carbon-Kevlar. He began searching for manufacturers that use the exotic, strong and lightweight material for body and aero components. He found front fenders, side diffusers and a rear diffuser from Downforce USA that accent and complement the S2000’s aggressive lines. This established the exterior black and gold theme, which found its way onto a Cusco bolt-in cage that was painted gold to contrast from the black interior.

Are Two Brains Better Than One?

Hondata ECUHonda switched from a cable throttle body to a drive-by-wire throttle body for the 2006-09 model years of the S2000. The added complexity of the drive-by-wire system challenged tuners to engineer engine management solutions that would work with the electronic throttle body. Amrit turned to Hondata, who at the time offered a piggyback harness adapter that incorporated a K-PRO engine management for fuel and ignition timing control. This duo proved a viable solution, as Amrit’s S2000 generated 503 turbocharged horsepower to the wheels. However, Hondata has since engineered an OBDII interface called FlashPro. Hondata states that this device allows full user tuning and datalogging of the factory ECU, which would certainly simplify the installation without requiring a second ECU and supplemental harness.

The Next Episode

Looking back at the build, Amrit notes, “I already knew what I wanted to do with this car. I had it all planned out in my head and executing that plan actually went very smoothly. The most tedious procedure was tucking and shaving the engine bay. We kept every amenity, which made cleaning up the engine bay a real headache. The really tricky part was the drive-by-wire system, but we finally got it done. The new project will involve a new manifold and a larger turbocharger along with some other goodies that you’ll just have to wait to see.” While the S2000 still plans to compete at shows, Amrit’s cryptic comments imply that this show stopper should deliver greater performance and more power when it’s finished.
