Directive 3: Objective Reached, New Objective Required

Dyno graph for the 457 WHP 10-Second Subaru STIWith the engine and chassis prepped, Servion Tuning refined the fuel and ignition tables of the AEM EMS for maximum power and drivability. On Revolutions Performance’s Dyno Dynamics all-wheel drive dynamometer, the STi spun the rollers to the tune of 470 horsepower and 428.7 lb-ft torque. Compared to the 220 WHP typically expected of stock EJ257s tested on that dyno in Colorado’s high-altitude environment, the current build represents an over 113-percent increase in power production.

Timeslip for the 457 WHP 10-Second Subaru STINow ready to put his creation to the test, Hochman drove the STi to Bandimere Speedway on April 16, 2011. With BFGoodrich drag radials mounted to the wheels, the STi reached its goal, a 10.82-second e.t. at 126 MPH. Since this accomplishment, the STi has also garnered a host of regional accolades in both display and competition arenas. Hochman and his STi have also been featured in the television program “Pinks.” While these awards and recognitions are welcomed, Hochman marks his DSPORT feature as one of the highest points of the build to date. Now he looks forward with secondary plans for the engine. “I plan to build a new motor with Darton ductile-iron sleeves to create more head room for horsepower, “ Hochman states, “and then upgrade to a larger, rotated turbo setup from Forced Performance. My new goal is to take my daily driven STi into the nine-second range.” He continues, “I really want to thank all of my sponsors for their help and my wife Marni for putting up with me and this project.” With the right support, right parts and the right knowledge, it should be a short matter of time before Hochman successfully completes his next directive.
