The Results
As claimed, the VP Racing Fuels C85 did add both power and torque to Project R35. Running on C85, average power between 2,000 RPM and 7,000 RPM was increased 4.8 percent while average torque in that same range was increased 5.0 percent. Using C85 also increased peak wheel horsepower from 629.61 to 652.23 (a gain of 22.62 whp) while increasing peak torque from 663.62 lb-ft to 695.80 lb-ft (a gain of 32.18 lb-ft). The highest incremental horsepower gain was 31.2 horsepower (realized at 3,800 RPM). The highest incremental torque gain was 43.0 lb-ft and it also occurred at 3,800 RPM. The engine was able to accelerate in Fourth gear 0.2 seconds quicker from 4,000 RPM to 7,000 RPM while making the pull on the dyno.
The Bottom Line
[pullquote]CONSIDERING WHAT SOME PEOPLE MIGHT SPEND TO GET THEIR 10.1-SECOND VEHICLE INTO THE 9’S, VP RACING FUELS C85 MAY BE ONE OF THE BEST VALUES ON EARTH.[/pullquote] For the times you need more power, VP Racing Fuels C85 delivers at a cost that’s roughly $10 per gallon more than “pump” E85. What will a nearly five percent increase in power and torque give you at the strip? Based on our drag racing simulator software, we’d expect our DSPORT Project R35 to pick up about 0.2-seconds and 1.5 mph in the quarter mile. Considering what some people might spend to get their 10.1-second vehicle into the 9s, VP Racing Fuels C85 may be one of the best values on earth.
HORSEPOWER
TORQUE
Both the horsepower and torque were increased across the entire powerband with the switch from E85 to VP Racing Fuels C85. The green lines represents the “stock” power and torque curves of our 2012 GT-R before upgrades. It now has enough power for low 10-second and possibly high-9-second performance.
