Test & Tune: 2001 Nissan Silvia S15 | More Airflow, More Boost, and + 36.3 WHP

The D'Garage Nissan Silvia S15 on the dyno

Back on MD Automotive’s Dynojet dynamometer, peak horsepower checked in at 262.17 horsepower at the wheels. That is an increase of 13.8% over the previous peak horsepower figure of 230.34. Increases of 25-35 horsepower were realized between 3,500 and 4,500 RPM, while up to 40 extra horsepower were generated between 5,500 and 6,500 RPM. Torque figures increased dramatically as well, generating 271.56 lb-ft of peak torque at 4,150 RPM. Throughout the entire RPM band, torque increases ranging from 25 lb-ft to as much as 45 lb-ft were noted. These gains translate into incredible response and feel on the street. Driving the S15 has taken on an entirely different feel compared to stock. With gains of over 56 horsepower and 80 lb-ft of torque, there is certainly more zip than before. Peak torque is most noticeable, as the turbo ramps up, the maximum torque kicks in at just past 4,000 RPM and pulls strong all the way through redline.

Our first and second rounds of upgrades have helped our S15 to realize maximum performance from the GT28R turbocharger and stock engine. For our next round, we plan to increase the airflow into the engine with a larger throttle body and a set of more aggressive camshafts. Since cylinder pressures are now considerably higher than a stock engine, we also plan to upgrade the ignition system. Stay tuned.
