Considering the XS Engineering Skyline GT-R a weapon of mass destruction, the XS staff conjures up strategic attacks to destroy any competition. An aggressive Veilside E3 widebody kit dramatically changes the appearance of the Skyline. Flaring the fenders far past their original width, the R32 uses extremely-wide 11.5-inch wheels. The wide wheels make contact to racing surfaces with 305/30R18 Hankook Ventus tires. The Hankooks mount to a set of 18- inch CCW Classic Race wheels. Behind the CCW’s, you’ll find StopTech four-piston calipers with 355mm slotted rotors in the front. The rear brakes feature StopTech two-piston calipers and 330mm slotted rotors. Brake-pad duty is given to Performance Friction with their 97-series pads in the front and 01-series pads in the rear. The increase in clamping force makes for quick stops and fast deceleration in brake zones.

Inside the vehicle, the driver and passenger sit securely in a pair of Sparco Pro-2000 seats. Strapping the occupants into the buckets, Sparco Seatbelt Harnesses limit unwanted movement. Taking shelter under a Design Craft rollcage, XS Engineering’s R32 offers unparalleled security to its passengers. Again, these modifications deliver their intended purpose while keeping the Skyline legal for racing.

Adding to the R32’s potency, XS matches the dangerously-fast vehicle to a driver with a similar driving style. Taking the driving position, Tarzan Yamada becomes the primary pilot of the XS Engineering Skyline.

Espionage

Upon completion, the teams were judged. ABD’s Jetta took the award for the Best Interior Modifications, XS was awarded the Best Exterior Modifications while also putting up the biggest numbers on the dyno. Buttonwillow Raceway in Southern California acted as the final battle ground for the three vehicles. The European tuner, ABD Racing took a step back in this competition as the Jetta was equipped with an automatic transmission and just couldn’t hold a candle to the other two contestants. GM’s Performance Division recorded the fastest lap time and the most improved lap time after blasting through two sessions. XS Engineering managed a second- place finish with the cars first visit to a track. Minor issues and the unavailability of Tarzan didn’t help the XS Engineering cause. As Tarzan was not available to race, a last-minute driver change provided a driver unfamiliar with the Skyline’s right- hand-drive configuration. As the new driver tried to become familiar with the GT-R, it would turn out that some issues with wheel bearings would cut the session short.

While the Street Tuner Challenge result was a disappointment, there would be an opportunity for redemption. The Redline Time Attack event at California Speedway in Fontana, California would be dominated by he XS R32. Sending a fierce message to the competition, Tarzan began the race by blasting off the starting line. Facing tough competition in the Unlimited AWD class, the driver endlessly enhanced his driving throughout the day. In between racing action, the team adjusts every aspect of the R32 to match the course conditions. Delivering a smoking-fast 1:07.63 lap time, the XS GT-R easily clocked 3.5 seconds from its closest competitor. Remaining the fastest time of the event, XS took the Unlimited AWD Championship as well as the Overall Championship.
