The Holinger: GTR Sequential 6- Speed
According to Mr. Yokomaku at VeilSide, the only drawback to the Holinger transmission is the price. With a price tag of $18,500 (AUD) or about $11,000 (U.S.), it is a big expense. However, it is a bolt-in complete aftermarket gearbox. Every internal component far exceeds the strength of the factory offering. It’s also a six-speed and is sequential. The gears are bevel cut for reduced noise. Gear changes are performed by using the standard gear lever and pulling back to upshift or forward to downshift. Gear engagement is performed by non-synchronized face dogs.
Our decision: Bite the Bullet
We have already made gobs of power and we are only going to make more. We’re serious about power, so it’s time to get serious about our transmission. Our custom Holinger has been ordered and should arrive in about six weeks.
Top Speed Challenge
We just learned that Option magazine is bringing out a Nissan 350Z to the Silver State Classic race in Nevada. For those of you unfamiliar with the Silver State, it’s the world’s fastest road race. The current record posts an average speed in excess of 200mph for the 90- mile course. It will be our goal to get our GT-R up to the challenge of running the race. We are still in the planning stages as we assemble our team. You’ll be able to experience the action as we plan on putting together a DVD following the buildup. Stay tuned.
