Fierce FWDs
The competition heated up in the Turbo by Garrett Pro FWD class, with less than 0.3 seconds separating the top three qualifiers. Chris Cook qualified on top behind the wheel of FCS Race’s class winning 2001 Integra. Jeremy Bretschneider and Omar Gonsales qualified right on his heels, also clicking off 9-second passes. A contender in the class, Aaron Tomosada, threw a rod that split his block and oiled down the track as he attempted to make his first qualifying pass on Sunday morning during the fourth qualifying session. This unfortunate breakdown ended up helping others however, as Tomosada lent his transmission to a racer in need, Scott Oates. As the eliminations proceeded, seventh qualifier Michael Gurwle improved on his position, upsetting each competitor he faced. Bretschneider broke and Gonsales also seemed to be suffering issues, which put Gurwle into the finals to face Cook. Cook broke in that final match up, as Gurwle collected his quickest time slip for the day (a 10.341 second pass at 132.26 mph) and the class victory.
