Leave it to Rockstar, AEM and Papadakis Racing to find a way to get Tanner Foust sideways in a Scion. While not the first Scion to compete in professional drifting, the Rockstar/AEM tC took performance to a new level. With a TRD Phase-9 NASCAR V8 producing the power and a G-Force transmission as the backbone of the driveline, the Scion incorporated features not seen before in Formula Drift competition. The quality and workmanship that went into the build is apparent as Tanner kept Rockstar in the top 10 for 2009. In 2010, Tanner captured the Tires.com Triple Crown title and finished second overall in points.
The TRD Phase-9 V8 engine that powers the Rockstar tC was used in the NASCAR Truck series to help Toyota earn a spot in the NEXTEL Cup Series.
UPDATE
The tC remained largely unchanged. The car is now retired after two years of competition (as it no longer conforms to Formula D Rules) and a new 2011 tC is being built for the 2011 Season. The new tC features a turbocharged, 2.7-liter stroked 2AR-FE engine. The driveline features a G-Force transmission with a Supra rear end.
