TEST 1 – COBB ACCESSPORT & COBB BOOST PILL
The COBB Boost Pill restricts the vacuum flow to the wastegate actuator, allowing the system to develop higher boost pressures. The COBB AccessPORT was used to fine-tune the ECU tables for the increase in boost pressure.

BASICS HANDLED
With the tuning solution in place, the maximum boost level that the factory bypass valve was determined to be able to hold was approximately 27 psi. Further quests for reliable and consistent horsepower gains above these levels should require at least the replacement of the factory bypass valve to allow higher boost pressures to be reached without the factory valve bleeding off excess pressure. With the basic intake and exhaust system components in place and tuned for maximum power output, our 71 whp increase and additional 45 lb-ft of torque should definitely motivate our EVO to faster levels. A side benefit of the titanium components is a respectable weight savings that reduce the load on the engine, allowing it to perform more efficiently than the horsepower and torque numbers alone would suggest.
In our next installment, we look toward further increasing intake efficiency by addressing the charge air temperatures and boost pressure losses that might occur with the factory rubber intercooler hoses and the factory boost bypass valve. We will also continue to maximize power output potential of each product by fine-tuning our fuel and ignition tables with the AccessPORT unit. Stay tuned.
